It might feel like a no-brainer to look for products to get rid of excess oil if your skin tends to be on the shiny end of the spectrum. The catch, though, is that this oil is actually what moisturises and nourishes our skin – the uptick in oil production occurs as a means to compensate for the lack of hydration and moisture in our skin, sometimes because of a layer of dead skin cells preventing nutrients from penetrating through, sometimes because excess sebum – the waxy substance which ends up clogging our pores and making our T-zones appear greasy – is preventing the skin’s ability to nourish itself.

Solution? Using products which absorb the excessive sebum from the skin, without stripping away its natural moisture.

Note that many of these cleansers are designed specifically for oily and combination skin types – dry and normal skin types might find them a tad too harsh and drying after use.

Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Cleansing Foam

Jeju Island’s volcanic ashes has a pH very close to the alkaline levels of the human body, meaning this component is incredibly effective in adjusting the pH balance of the skin and regulating excessive sebum production. The cleanser also penetrates deep into your pores to dissolve trapped impurities and acne causing bacteria, with astringent properties that tighten up your skin to improve suppleness, without stripping off any of the skin’s natural ingredients, making this a great cleanser for all skin types.

We were hard put to find any negative review about this cleanser. Rich with the amino acids of egg whites, this mild, gentle-to-skin cleanser helps remove any impurities and excess sebum against your skin without removing any of its natural moisture or nutrients. The albumen in egg whites also works to improve the skin’s resilience, reducing the size of pores while clearing them of trapped oil and dirt. While this is not the product you’d opt for a deep-cleansing session, this is still a thorough and effective cleanser to use on a daily basis for all skin types.

April Skin Magic Stone 100% Natural Cleansing Soap in Marble

April Skin Magic Stone 100% Natural Cleansing Soap in Marble

There are many cleansers out there intended to be a part of a set, with a toner and/or moisturiser in the same range to stock up on the nutrients stripped off in the cleaning process.

This delightfully moon-shaped hard soap, which won’t foam away despite being stuck under water, combines the cleansing and moisturising process, however – full of a ton of moisturising, skin-rejuvenating natural ingredients such as shea butter, coconut oil, grapeseed oil and sunflower oil, and French green mud to tighten up your bores, regulate sebum and improve blood flow underneath the skin, the lather can be left on like a face mask for a few minutes before washing off. This not only replenishes the skin’s nutrients, but helps re-establish the skin’s optimum pH balance, without drying you out or removing naturally occurring vitamins and minerals.
